Treatability Studies

Key to the evaluation of potential treatment technologies on a waste or waste stream is a study of the selected alternative technique(s) on a bench or laboratory scale.  The data from these studies establish such factors as the future potential of the technique, effective range of application, secondary waste production, limits of safe utilization, scale-up criteria for field application and ability of the full-scale system to meet regulatory treatability requirements.

In the project depicted, MCLinc performed bench scale treatability testing to establish the treatment option that most efficiently removed trace levels of uranium, cadmium, and zinc from wastewater.  MCLinc subsequently scaled up the design and built the system shown above to successfully treat approximately 120,000 gallons of water.  A crystal of autinite formed in the process is shown  in the photomicrograph below.
